Hello!
It's that time of year again! NaPoWriMo 2025 has begun! Wooo! I'm looking forward to writing poems again and seeing what I can create this month.
To get things started, the prompt was to write a poem about a portrait. While on my way into work this morning I wasn't sure what portrait I wanted to use, but after just a few minutes at work my day became very chaotic and frustrating. I wanted a portrait to reflect that and googled some paintings, and came across The Scream by Edvard Munch. I'm not sure if it's actually a portrait, but it was close enough and reflected my feelings this morning. I also wanted to phrase the poem in such a way as to have the reader question, "is she still talking about the picture or her life?", I hope I conveyed that feeling. Enjoy!
The Scream
The Scream echoes through my soul
a swirl of colours and chaos around me.
one day away and everything is in disarray.
My hands to my face as a stretch elongated,
the frustration building to anger and anxiety,
wanting to release in a scream.
The headache building behind my eyes,
others pass oblivious to my state,
the world out of focus for me.
The Scream to release the feelings within.
Thanks for reading! And here's to a great NaPoWriMo ahead!
